The Greater Brandon Arts Council (GBAC) is pleased to announce that Mary GrandPré, an American illustrator best known for her illustrations of the Harry Potter books, will be the guest speaker at the next GBAC Seminar.
Mary’s presentation on the Illustration process will appeal to both writers and artists. We encourage both adults and teens to attend.

Mary GrandPré has been a freelance illustrator for the past 30 years. She received her BFA degree from the Minneapolis College of Art and Design, majoring in illustration, with a secondary focus on graphic design. As a freelance illustrator, her illustration projects range from advertising, editorial and packaging to concept painting and character design for animation studios. She has also illustrated several children’s picture books with major publishers, and she illustrated the American version of the Harry Potter Books.
Mary uses a wide variety of media to create her art, including pastel, acrylic and oil paints, collage and printmaking. She also enjoys painting from life, using the figure and still life, as well as creating fantasy based pieces.
Mary has received numerous awards throughout her carrer and has been featured in various trade journals and art magazines. Some of her clients include The New York Times, Harper Collins, Knopf, Crown Publishing, Random House, Scholastic, BBDO, Cincinnati Opera, Warner Bros., DreamWorks, Pacific Data Images, and Blue Sky Studios. During her years of freelancing, Mary has also taught first year illustration at the College of Visual Arts in St. Paul, MN and Children’s Book Illustration at Ringling College of Art and Design.
